Little piece of paradise on the river
We just returned from a wonderful weekend at Singletons Retreat. The house has been beautifully and tastefully renovated. It feels like home. Arriving to the smell of fresh cut grass and a view of the sun sparkling off the river made us instantly feel relaxed. Our little dogs were in doggy heaven, one of them chasing a ball for hours (which we could throw from the table on the wide wooden verandah, without even leaving our lunch!). Finding the complimentary wine and cheese left by Brad made us feel like we were staying at a gracious friend's home. Loved the verandah, the little extras in the pantry, the smell of the bush, the rain on the roof, the view, the sunsets....um everything really. Brad says he will be putting in a jetty. Paddling around in a canoe might be fun too but very happy with how it is right now. Thanks Brad!

We had a lovely time winding down from our wedding the day before. The location was beautiful and peaceful. It was so wonderful to be able to take a four legged friends with us to such a stunning location. All the houses fixtures and the special homely touches were great. The full kitchen had everything you could need and the pantry had lots of bits and pieces. Brad was very helpful, brimming with local information and advice. We can’t wait for next time!

"My husband and I have just spent an absolutely fabulous week Singleton's Retreat with our Great Dane who loved the space to gallop, swim and explore. My chef husband had everything he needed/wanted in the excellently appointed kitchen while I took advantage of the peaceful seclusion of the wide verandah's to read and take photos. We mountain biked along uninhabited bush tracks, kayaked on the lovely stretch of the Hawkesbury which fronts the cottage and generally had a wonderful relaxing time. Thanks for sharing your delightful piece of history with us Brad. "

"I have stayed at singletons retreat twice within a month. It is the most relaxing comfortable place i have ever been too. There has been alot of care taken to make you feel at home.Very tasteful. You have to love the big old fashioned bath.A definite must if you want to relax."
"I stayed at Singleton's Retreat last weekend with my husband and two dogs and have to say that this is the most fantastic place. It is an historic house which has been renovated beautifully and sympathetically and is full of quality fixtures and fittings, including a claw foot bath and an amazing kitchen. There is a verandah around three sides of the house with amazing views of the River and also of the surrounding bush land. The land area is large and private (including badminton court) and is perfect for scampering pooches; my two certainly enjoyed it immensely. A wonderful romantic place full of all the mod cons and somewhere I plan to return to soon."

"My husband and I recently stayed here for a weekend getaway. Settlers Retreat is a beautifully restored cottage on the banks of the Hawkesbury in a very quiet section of the river. It is only recently completed and has everything you can possibly need for a secluded romantic weekend away, including ultra deep claw footed bathtub and gourmet kitchen! All the little things the owner provided made us feel very welcome! "

"Wonderful place to stay and unwind. We were impressed by the attention to detail which made for a welcoming environment - the massive bath tub and big log fire went a long way too! Highly recommended for those wanting to get away from it all."

"My family and I recently stayed here for a relaxing getaway. The property is a beautifully restored cottage and has all the mod cons that anyone could want. From the fantastic morning outlook from our bedroom to the complimentary wine and cheese Brad made our stay at Singletons one of the best getaways our family has ever experienced. We will definitely go back!"

"We couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay at this "heavenly" cottage Singletons Retreat. Very private, very relaxing, sensational views, 1.5hrs from Sydney (max) and the host is really welcoming. The accommodation is gorgeous and has everything you need, our pet loved the open spaces - we could have stayed forever!"

"After our first visit in March 08, we knew we’d return. This time we booked for seven days, stayed for ten, and still didn’t want to go home. We’re already looking forward to next time.
For us, ‘Settlers’ offers so much.
We took great delight in simple things like watching patches of mist rise up through the trees. Short strolls, longer walks and some very pleasant drives. Practicing yoga on the veranda (tranquility plus). Romantic evenings snuggled close to the open fire.
Experiencing the vast Hawkesbury River and its magnificent surroundings from our small kayaks was amazing.
Wildflowers, wallabies, fresh air. Great photography opportunities ( we took some surreal shots).
For us, Settlers is a place to unwind, a romantic getaway, an explorers delight, a writers retreat. A place where we can’t help but leave our worries at home.
Thanks Brad, we had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you soon. "

"Wonderful, comfortable, well appointed cottage. The owner had paid get detail to quality even down to the welcome bottle of wine and cheeses. Even being rained in was not a bother. The large open fire made passing the hours away a pleasure and when the sun did shine we moved out to the large verandah to barbecue. Settlers Retreat is a place to relax and just watch to river flow by. Our children and dogs loved it ! Brad has done a wonderful job."

"The photos on takeabreak do not do this place justice. We stayed for a week in July and had a wonderful time. We were welcomed with wine and cheese and then left to do very little for the rest of the week.....
The huge verandah looks right over the river and gets the morning sun - it's a beautiful outlook and extremely easy to while away many hours sitting there. The renovation is true to the house's original features. The owner has thought of everything to make the house really comfortable - the kitchen is extremely well stocked, big TV, DVD player, central heating, bath, fantastic bbq etc.
If you want a picturesque and quiet setting and just want to relax - bush walk, read, fish, watch movies - this place is ideal. Thanks again Brad."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay with two children and two dogs. The host was great - there was a fire burning when we arrived, and wine and a cheese platter waiting for us. The house is great, lots of atmosphere, lots of lovely details inside and out, and it has all the mod cons as well. It is a great location too, right on the river, with a small road, essentially a dirt track, continuing along the river, perfect for walks. We took some walks on Singleton Rd towards Wisemans Ferry to Fords Farm to pick mandarins and kumquats. St Albans is only an hour's drive away, a good destination for dinner at the Settlers' Arms Inn. We brought our own kayaks and went down stream to Spencer "hub of the universe" for some fish and chips. It was a great holiday only a short distance away from Sydney. We will certainly be back and can greatly recommend this place!"

"First class accommodation, extremely well presented, amazing setting on a beautiful and tranquil part of the river, just what the doctor ordered. A welcome gift of fresh prawns and a selection of cheeses awaited our arrival. Extremely relaxing, we can't wait for the next time. Absolutely great. "
